Underpinning

The word says it all: under an existing foundation, a sheeting (retaining wall) is placed. Underpinning fulfills two important functions:

  • The underpinning provides effective soil retention under the existing foundation of the new excavation or basement to be constructed. If necessary, ground anchors are added to achieve larger and stable soil retention.

  • The underpinning also ensures that the load (weight) of the existing foundation is effectively transferred to the new excavation or basement to be constructed. If there is no load-bearing layer at the depth of the new basement, micropiles can be installed in the underpinning to guarantee stability.

AVOID SPACE LOSS

Underpinning is the deepening of an existing foundation, and it does not take up space within the basement to be constructed.

EXECUTABLE EVERYWHERE

Underpinning can be carried out entirely manually. This means that standing height is sufficient and underpinning can even be performed in hard-to-reach places.

SUITABLE FOR ANY SUBSOIL

With the necessary tools, even foundation masonry and sandstone can be removed, provided the subsoil is dry and there are no floating layers.
